My Birthday Adventure

Well, it wasn't really an adventure, but I had a great time.

My birthday was on Saturday. I am eleventy billion years old*. Brian kindly offered, as part of my birthday gift, to act as my sexy chauffeur for the day.

He is that hot.

First we drove out to Port Credit to Gitta's where I stocked up on needlepoint frippery. Brian waited patiently in the car while I sauntered about picking out all my colours.

Then we set out for the big outing -  to Zephyr, Ontario where we attended the Open House of Snooters Forever Home, a farm animal rescue run by Susan and Brian Morris. Susan and Brian have full time jobs as paramedics in Toronto and when they're not saving human-animal lives, they are taking care of the lives of non-human animals saved from Factory Farms.

Their farm is beautiful. Green, well tended gardens, clean pens, charming paths.

peacocks wander around the farm. Lots of them.

I am one of those people, who, if I see a line up of people, will join the line without even knowing what the line is for, simply because I imaging that joining the line is what I am supposed to do.

I'm not sure how they do it. I talked to a volunteer who says that although they occasionally get some help from friends and volunteers, 99% of the work is done by Susan and Brian. And on their own dime. A labour of love, to be sure.

look at that face!

I hung out with some excellent chickens:

We had a lovely, lovely time. After we left we stopped at a roadside vegetable and fruit market and got some shiny veggies.

It was so blindingly bright outside I could hardly keep my eyes open for this picture. The radishes in this photo are WAY redder in real factual life.

Then we went to Loblaws and got a lot of stuff.

Then we came home and I had a glorious green smoothie.

Then we  ordered in Thai food, because that is what we do every year on my birthday.

green curry with tofu. Yummmmmmmm!

I had a very nice day. You know, I didn't even have cake. And I love cake. And I had a total excuse to have cake and I didn't.  There were even vegan cupcakes at Snooters and I didn't have one.

What a fool I was.  A gorgeous, mad, mysterious fool.

Happy birthday to me!!

*the term "eleventy billion" I stole from Mrs. Tuna.

It's My Birthday Tomorrow!

It is my birthday tomorrow . I will be 45 years old. That’s super super awesome because now I can say “I’m hip, I’m cool, I’m 45”.

When it’s your birthday, people often ask you how you are going to spend your special day. Of course, I can’t do everything in the whole world that I want to, but here’s a partial list of what I’d like to do to celebrate my natal day:

Get my run over with early in the day. I’m hoping that it’s one of those runs where it feels effortless.

Wear my favourite summer dress from Yoka.

Have a latte.

Sit on the front step, with a good book, and Gracie. I am currently reading:

Have a sandwich

Browse through the bookstore.

Snuggle Fiona

Watch TV with Brian.

Needlepoint

Order needlepoint supplies on line.

Ride my new bike!!

Buy some fancy soap at the lady store down on Queen St.

Order in Thai food for dinner.

What I will actually do is do my exercises begrudgingly, wear grubby shorts and a t-shirt, have re-heated coffee, yell “NO” at Gracie most of the day, clean up dog crap on the floor, vacuum and pick at my cuticles. Later I’ll watch TV with Brian and needlepoint.

And that will be pretty good, too.
